☆Teaching Objectives: 1. To ask questions with the verb “to be”
2. To make negative sentences with the verb “to be”
☆Teaching Contents:
Simple present tense of the verb “to be”
☆Teaching Procedure: Step I
Remind the students that we have learned many sentences with the verb “be” Let them recall together. Eg: He is 13 years old.
He is in the school basketball team. I am in the Reading Club. We are classmates. We are happy. You are my master. Step II
1. Let the students know the correct forms of the verb “to be” followed by a pronoun. Point out the short form. U am = I’m
You / We / They are --- ( You’re --- , We’re ---, They’re --- ) He/ She / It is --- ( He’s ---, She’s ---, It’s --- )
2. Go through the tables on page 10 with the students. Notice some contractions. I am not = I’m not
You / We / They are not = You / We / They / aren’t He / she / It is not = isn’t
3. Go through the tables on page 11 and learn how to ask and answer questions with the verb “ to be” in the simple present tense. Am I --- ?
Are you / We / they ---? Is he / she / it ---? Step III
1. Do exercises E and F 2. Let them check themselves.
3. Ask the students themselves to work out a rule. How do they make a positive and negative sentences and make a question and answer it using the verb “ to be” in the simple present tense? Step IV
Extensive activities:
Make up a dialogue. Eg. Talk about the family, the following questions may help you.
What’s your father ? Is he a worker ? Is the boy your cousin Andy ? Is he tall and strong ? is he polite and helpful ?
