least one electromagnetic radiation detector adapted for detecting detection signalsindicative of the pulses of electromagnetic radiation after transmission through the layerof fat, and a determining unit adapted for determining a plurality of values of thethickness of the layer of fat based on an analysis of a plurality of ratios between thedetection signals, wherein only those values are used for calculating an average thicknessof the layer of fat which values result in deviations from the average thickness of lessthan a predetermined threshold value.
