A girl of reminding
The volunteering spirit has spread among the Chinese people in recent years, especially among young people. Things like this can fulfill our life and change our values. I have experienced a lot when I worked as a volunteering teacher in a village called DongShan last summer.
We are surprised by what we see when we arrived there. people here still lives in thatched houses(茅草屋), child wearing old clothes with mud on it, many young children works in the field with their parents. There has only one teacher in village primary school. You can image how hard their lives are and how difficult for them to get good education. But people there keep a positive mind towards life and future. There is one girl, whose name is Xiao Juan leaved us deep impression.
I notice that there was always a girl who was later for classes every morning. One day, I stare at her for a long time to tell her that she was doing something wrong. She noticed me and showed me strange eyesight. What is more confusing is that later girl can always be the highest scores’ owner in my class. This make me felt curious about her. Several days later, I asked her to my simple office and blamed her on her always-being late.
I said: “why are you always late for class?”
She replied me with silence.
I continued complaining: “Are you happy to do so? Is this your mom teaches you?
She said nothing.
“Are you satisfied with yourself?” I shouted
But I heard nothing but a helpless face.
…
I felt very angry about this girl. I was wondering how she can ignore my words. Didn’t she like me?
With those questions, I visited her family. She was absent that day. So I got only the chance to talk with her grandmother. Old grandmother told us proudly that Xiao Juan is a very good child. She would feed the pigs every morning before her going to school and help to cook after school. Her parents went to Guangzhou for works, so she was a so-called left-behind child. We had a long chat that day and I learned why she is always later for class, and she didn’t talk with me for her shyness. Suddenly, I realized that I have done what a stupid thing.
This reminds me of an old saying that: “Kids from poor family grow up earlier”. Xiao Juan is such a girl who becomes very independent and responsible without company from parents.I learn a lot from that girl that we should feel regret
about ourselves those who live a rich life but have a poor mind, those who have a good study environment but they prefer online games than study and those who got opportunity to further study but they say they do not want to attend school any more. But Xiao Juan tells us that we should values all things we have now, and we should try our best to achieve more.
