1. Bodiless lacquerware 脱胎漆器
The bodiless lacquerware starts with a body of clay. Grass linen麻布is pasted onto it, layer after layer, with lacquer as the binder. The original body is removed after the outer cloth shell has dried in the shade. It is then smoothed with putty细灰, polished, and coated with layers of lacquer. After being carved with colorful patterns, it becomes extremely light.
2. Shoushan Stone Carving 寿山石雕
The Shoushan Stone gets its name from its mining place of Shoushan Village of Fuzhou. These rocks formed from the earth’s movement more than 100 million years to 200 million years ago. The mining is difficult, and thus the stone is very rare. Tianhuang is the most precious type of Shoushan stone. With a soft, smooth surface and various colors, Shoushan stone is an ideal material for carving. Shoushan stone carving integrates traditional poetry, calligraphy and painting. The works of Shoushan stone have extensive subject matters, such as people, animals, landscapes, birds and flowers.
3. Cork paintings 软木画
It was originated in the early years of 20th century. It was made with the bark of cork oaks栓皮栎 found in Europe. The subject matters are usually tiny flowers, grasses, trees, pavilions, towers, palaces, corridors, bridges, boats, birds and animals. Though the subjects are small, they are so exquisite and lifelike that the scenery ranging thousands of miles can be contained in it.
4. Horn Comb 牛角梳
It’s good for stimulating the scalp and hair. It absorbs oil, doesn’t produce static electricity and is much easier to use, even on tangled hair.
5. Oil-paper Umbrella 油纸伞
The frame is made of bamboo and paper is cut and glued onto the frame and then the paper is oiled so that the umbrella is water-proof. And lastly, patterns are painted onto the umbrella.
