A typical lion tamer(驯兽师)

in people’s mind is an entertainer holding a whip( 鞭) at a chair. The whip gets all of the attention, but it’s mostly for show. In reality, it’ the chair that does the important work. When a lion tamer holds a chair in front of the lion’s face, the lion tries to focus on all four legs of the chair at the same time. With its focus divided, the lion becomes confused and is unsure about what to do next. When faced with so many options, the lion chooses to freeze and wait instead of attacking the man holding the chair.

How often do you find yourself in the same position as the lion? How often do you have something you want to achieve (e.g. lose weight, start a business, travel more)—

only to end up confused by all of the options in front of you and never make progress?

This upsets me to no end because while all the experts are busy debating about which option is been the people who want to improve their lives are left confused by all of the conflicting information. The end result is that we feel like we can’t focus or that we’re focused on the wrong things, and so we take less action, make less progress, and stay the same when we coul

d be improving.

It doesn’t have to be that way. Anytime you find the world waving a chair in your face, remember this: All you need to do is focus on one thing. You just need to get started. Starting before you feel ready is one of the habits of successful people. If you have somewhere you want to go, something you want to accomplish, someone you want to become…take immediate action. If you’re clear about where you want to go, the rest of the world will either help you get there or get out of the way. 25. Why does the lion tamer use a chair? A. To trick the lion. B. To show off his skills.

C. To get ready for a fight. D. To entertain the audience.

26. In what sense are people similar to a lion facing a chair? A. They feel puzzled over choices. B. They hold on to the wrong things.

C. They find it hard to make changes. D. They have to do something for show

27. What is the author’s attitude towards the expert mentioned in Paragraph3?

A. Tolerant. B. Doubtful.

C. Respectful. D. Supportive. 28. When the world is “waving a chair in your face”, you’re advised to _____.

A. wait for a better chance B. break your old habits

C. make a quick decision D. ask for clear guidance C

Charlie Vansant, a college student of Athens, Ohio, who reported that his car was stolen, got a surprise when he learned a woman had mistaken it for her daughter’s car and taken it— using her key.

Kate Anderson became an accidental car thief when picking up her daughter’s car near an Ohio University building last week. Anderson spotted the Toyota Camry(丰田凯美瑞)and used her daughter’s key to unlock the car, start the engine and drive home — without realizing that the car wasn't her daughter’s.

When Charlie Vansant left class a short time later, he found only an empty parking spot. He first assumed the car had been towed, but when the police couldn’t find a record of it, they took a theft report.

The morning after Anderson took the car, her daughter discovered the Camry in the driveway wasn’t hers. Anderson said she was able to find Vansant’s name on paperwork in the glove compartment and look up his phone number on the website for the university.

When Anderson told Charlie the car was in her driveway, “It sounded really suspicious(可疑的)

at first, as she wanted to hold the thing for ransom (赎

金) , ” said Vansant. He eventually went to the house with a police officer, where he was reunited with his car. According to the police report, the case was closed “because of mistaken car identity”, and Anderson wasn’t charged.

Vansant seemed to blame the car company more than the “thief”. “Her key fit not only my lock, but my ignition(点火装置)as well — so high-five for Toyota, I guess.” he said.

32.What does the underlined word “towed” mean in paragraph 3?

A. remove B. damaged C. stolen D. sold 33.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?

B. He wants to celebrate with Toyota for getting his car back.

C. He thinks highly of Toyota for producing large quantities of cars.

D. He is blaming Toyota for the poor quality of car keys. 35.What is likely to happen next according to the passage? A. Mrs. Anderson was charged with stealing a car.

B. Charlie blamed Mrs. Anderson for mistakenly taking his car.

C. The Toyota Company would give Charlie a new car as compensation(补偿).

D. Charlie would ask the Toyota Company to give him an explanation. .

第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Investing in Yourself

Figuring out how to invest your money can be a difficult task. This is something that you will want to learn how to do. 36 Things that will improve your knowledge, skills or health are all great investments. However, before you start, you need to be

clear about what you will gain out of doing all of these things. You may think investing in yourself means investing in your education. 37 There are some other things you can do as well as buying a gym membership or learning a new skill.

So what are some specific things you can do? 38 Reading books can really expand your mind and allow you to learn different skills and gain knowledge. I'm talking about the books where you will actually learn a new skill, not fiction books. You can also take courses and attend seminars. These programmes are taught by people with a high level of knowledge or skill. 39 Only in this way can you avoid being fooled by some sales presentations.

Moreover, investing in yourself is a safe way to keep your money. Although a savings account is seen as the most secure investment, that isn't 100% safe. Even if you never experience your bank closing down, the return is little when inflation (通货膨

胀) is taken into consideration. 40 But over time, they will show up in terms of your happiness level as well as your level of success.

A. The benefits will stay with you. B. This is just one way.

C. If you aren't a reader, you should start with that. D. The more you do this, the more valuable you will be.

E. The best way to invest your money is to invest in yourself. F. Of course, you need to do some research before investing. G. When you invest in yourself, you may not see gains right away.

Investing in Yourself

Figuring out how to invest your money can be a difficult task. This is something that you will want to learn how to do. 36 Things that will improve your knowledge, skills or health are all great investments. However, before you start, you need to be clear about what you will gain out of doing all of these things.
